Video of the deadly prison riot in northern Mexico caused by a brawl between rival cartel leaders resulting in the deaths of 49 people was released by authorities in Mexico.

The surveillance footage’s speed is enhanced and does not contain audio, shows the February 10 events that transpired at the Topo Chico prison in Monterrey, Mexico after a dispute between rival factions of a drug cartel led to one of the deadliest prison riots in Mexico’s history.

The inmates can be seen gathering in the prison’s yard, well after curfew. Prisoners can be seen hurling objects and setting on fire to barricades, which quickly spread throughout the yard.

Police managed to storm the prison and quell the violence, but not before 49 inmates were clubbed, stabbed or burned to death.

Jaime Rodriguez, the governor of the state said authorities recovered 60 hammers, 86 knives and 120 makeshift blades that were used in the bloodshed.
