A fugitive from Tampa, Florida tried to chew off his fingertips in an attempt to conceal his identity from Police in Ohio during a traffic stop early Friday.

Officers approached a vehicle with four passengers during a traffic stop around 3 a.m. Friday and smelled marijuana emanating from the car.

According to the Tallmadge police chief, the officers took the information of the four people and placed them inside the police cruiser, without handcuffs, while they performed a search of the car.

Police then discovered that 24-year-old Kirk Kelly gave the name of his brother who is also a Tampa resident.

Tampa authorities were contacted, and it was determined that Kelly was wanted on a warrant.

When Kelly overheard the officers talking about using a mobile fingerprint scanner to confirm his identity, he decided to chew off his fingerprints.

Kelly then managed to flee as the officers tried to handcuff him but he ended up getting captured after a foot chase.

Turns out Kelly is the subject of a nationwide warrant for charges that would include racketeering, drugs, and weapon possession.

Authorities also suspect Kelly of selling guns possibly linked to at least 15 murders.

Police confirmed Kelly’s identity thanks to his tattoos, including one that says “Port Tampa” across his stomach.

He now faces additional charges including resisting arrest, obstructing official business, tampering with evidence and is currently held in the Summit County Jail near Akron awaiting extradition to Florida.
