A video has surfaced online showing the murder of top police commander and his two bodyguards from the town of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco.

The executions led to the resignation of the command staff of the department.

A user posted the video on Facebook, which shows bystanders fleeing for safety while at the same time catching cell phone video of a team of gunmen pulling up behind a police vehicle at a busy intersection and gunning down three officers inside.

Gunmen can be seen spraying the police SUV with automatic weapons before fleeing in a light-colored truck.

A woman in the video can be heard urging other bystanders to stay down.

The Jalisco Attorney General’s Office confirmed the deaths of Francisco Javier Alejo Rodriguez, the sub-director of operations for the local police department along with two of his bodyguards identified as Daniel Rio Chavez and Jose de Jesus Hernandez.

According to Proceso, the Tlaquepaque Police Chief Martin Maldonado and his Operations Director Gregorio Martinez announced their resignations shortly after the executions.

The departures have left a void in the municipal police force, and the Military and state police forces will be compelled to take over patrolling of the area while the city finds suitable replacements.

Mexican officials have not revealed which cartel is responsible for the killings.

Although the state is home to the ultra-violent New Generation Cartel CJNG, other cartels, also operate in the region including La Familia Michoacana, Los Zetas, the Gulf Cartel, and the Sinaloa Cartel.
