An Ohio grand jury has indicted an 18-year-old woman who allegedly live-streamed the rape of her 17-year-old friend along with another man on charges of kidnapping and rape.

The announcement made by Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien in on Wednesday, who said police launched an investigation after a friend of the accused woman who lives out of state, saw the disturbing content and contacted authorities.

O’Brien said 18-year-old Marina Lonina and co-defendant 29-year-old Raymond Gates, were both charged with sexual battery, rape, kidnapping and pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor.

According to the indictment, the alleged rape involved intercourse by force but didn’t mention the victim’s age a factor in the charges.

Also, prosecutors charged Lonina with illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance, with her use of the smartphone app Periscope, to live stream the crime.

Periscope lets users utilize a video function to stream events live.

O’Brien added that Lonina and the victim met Gates at a Columbus Home on Feb. 27 when he allegedly raped the victim while the 18-year-old suspect used the Periscope app to live stream the sexual assault.

She also snapped a nude picture of the girl the night before at Lonina’s house, the prosecutor said.

Gates will appear in court on Friday for his arraignment. If convicted of the charges, each of the accused could face up to 40 years in prison.

A Florida woman received a six-month license suspension and 150 hours of community service back in February after she streamed live video of herself driving drunk last year.
