Two Joint operations between Colombian and U.S. authorities have led to the seizure of 1,850 kilograms of cocaine off the coasts of Guatemala and El Salvador, officials in Bogota reported Sunday.

U.S. Law enforcement officials said it was the first anti-drug operation carried out in Guatemalan waters by Colombia’s Dijin and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, with support from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Authorities arrested four Ecuadorians after intercepting a fast boat carrying 1,010 kg of cocaine the Colombian police said in a statement.

The three Ecuadorian suspects on board on board headed from to Central America when they were intercepted officials said.

During the second operation, which was conducted 406 nautical miles off El Salvador’s coast, authorities seized 840 kg of cocaine on board a boat, arresting the crew consisting of two Colombians and an Ecuadorian.

This shipment was being sent by drug traffickers from Colombia’s Pacific coast to Central America, from where it would have been smuggled to the United States on board fast boats and semi-submersibles.

The arrested men were turned over to Salvadoran authorities. EFE
