A Wisconsin mother driving on a Milwaukee highway with her 2-year-old son was tragically killed after the toddler found a gun in the backseat of her boyfriend’s car, police said Tuesday.

The child accidentally shot his mother, 26-year-old Patrice Price, after he had fired a gun left in the vehicle by her security guard boyfriend, her father Andre Price told WISN.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that Price died at the scene on Highway 175,

“Initial witness accounts indicate that a child in the back seat of the vehicle got ahold of a gun and discharged the firearm, sending a single bullet into the driver’s back. The MCSO investigation into the death is ongoing,” the department said in a statement.

The distraught father described his daughter as a hard-working mother-of-three. “I have a knot in my chest; they won’t even let me see my daughter. I just wanted to hold my daughter for one last time,” Andre Price said.

It would mark the second incident in two months where a child would injure a parent after finding a gun in the back seat of a car.

Back in February, Jamie Gilt was shot in the back while driving by her 4-year-old son, who found a loaded firearm in the back seat of her car.

Gilt, who’s a massive gun enthusiast, survived the shooting, but could still face legal woes from the incident. Authorities are still determining whether to charge the 31-year-old Florida mom.
