A Mexican female police officer from Ciudad Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, was arrested with a shipment of marijuana at the Paso del Norte International Bridge in downtown El Paso.

A statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the arrest of 25-year-old Nubia Rodriguez Bustamante after she crossed the border and arrived at the El Paso point of entry in her 2016 Fiat Uno on May 7th.

Agents indicated Rodriguez Bustamante displayed nervous behavior as she presented her border crossing card and noticed the back seats of the vehicle “looked overly puffy,” according to the complaint.

Officials said a secondary inspection using a density meter, X-ray scan and a drug-sniffing canine named Rici uncovered 121 packages totaling 153 pounds of marijuana stashed in the seats, dashboard and flat board of the car.

According to the arrest complaint, Border agents arrested Rodriguez Bustamante on suspicion of marijuana trafficking.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations attempted to question Rodriguez, but she declined to talk and demanded a lawyer, the complaint states. She was handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE).

Rodriguez Bustamante is currently being held in the El Paso County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Unconfirmed reports out of Mexico indicate Rodriguez Bustamante studied law; she is described as 5 feet 3 inches, brown eyes black hair with a light complexion.
