Seven people were brutally executed on Tuesday in a new spiral of violence stemming from an ongoing turf war between Mexico’s two most violent drug cartels in the Gulf state of Veracruz.

Authorities said five dismembered bodies of suspected members of the ruthless Los Zetas were found in the Córdoba-Orizaba industrial corridor-Amatlán de Los Reyes, Proceso reported.

According to police reports, two poster boards with messages allegedly signed by the infamous New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG) vowing to “clean Veracruz of all Zetas scum” were discovered next to the remains.

The discovery of the bodies mobilized elements of the Federal Police, Civil Police Force Unified Command, and forensic experts from the Attorney General to the scene of the gruesome discovery.

In recent weeks, Veracruz has been ground zero for the drug war as the CJNG have launched a string of violent attacks against suspected members of the Zetas.

As Jammed Up previously reported, Veracruz was engulfed in a wave of violence last weekend after five people were executed inside the bar “Madame” in the capital Xalapa by a group of gunmen, injuring 14 others.

Earlier Saturday, CJNG gunmen stormed a packed church where families had gathered for a confirmation ceremony, kidnapping Agustin Urena Estrada also known as “El Chango.” the nephew of Jose Juan Ramirez Ureña, alias “El Caribe,” the Zetas plaza boss in Xalapa in front of his terrified wife, mother, and children.

Prior to the abduction, authorities discovered the severed head of a taxi driver also in Xalapa. His head was left on his taxi along with a message warning, “This is what will happen with all those who betray us.” The message also warned Ureña he was next, as well as his relative Ramirez Estrada, among two more and was signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which also calls itself the Group of Zeta Killers.

Over the past five years, Veracruz was the exclusive province of Los Zetas. However, the emergence of the equally violent Jalisco New Generation Cartel now threatens to wrestle control of the vital smuggling corridors and strategic ports which has resulted in massive surge of violence in the state.

The CJNG which is a splinter group of the Sinaloa and Millenio cartels first announced their arrival in 2010 by dumping the tortured bodies of 35 people including 12 women and two minors who were reportedly linked to Los Zetas.
