Authorities say a gun and badge were taken from the vehicle of an FBI agent in San Francisco’s Alamo Square on Sunday.

The federal law enforcement officer reported the theft to police after someone broke into his vehicle on Sunday afternoon, said San Francisco Police spokesman Carlos Manfredi.

According to Manfredi, among the items stolen includes the FBI agent’s credentials along with his .40-caliber Glock handgun, no additional details were made available.

The theft comes on the heels of a string of robberies and break-ins in the San Francisco Bay Area where weapons have been stolen from members of law enforcement and used in homicides.

In 2015, a gun that was stolen by an undocumented migrant from the car of an FBI agent was used to kill 32-year-old Kate Steinle.

A few months later a trio of homeless drifters killed a backpacker and a tantric yoga instructor with a firearm stolen from the vehicle of a civilian.
