A Texas school teacher, who police have charged with engaging in an ongoing sexual relationship with her student in her 8th-grade class “on almost a daily basis,” has posted bail.

According to ABC13, 24-year-old Alexandria Vera, an English teacher at Stovall Middle School, in Houston, was released on $100,000 bail after earlier surrendering to police.

Prosecutors have charged Vera with the continuous sexual abuse of a child, which is a felony after she engaged in a relationship with a 13-year-old student in her class.

Officials said Vera and the student, identified only as “J.T.” in court documents, became romantically involved when she taught summer school back in 2015.

The teacher told investigators that J.T. messaged her on Instagram asking for her number. Records indicate that for the following academic year the student was assigned to her 8th grade English class, where he “would flirt with her and say inappropriate things to her.”

Vera, who has a 4-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, stated she first resisted the boy’s advances. However, she messaged him back on Instagram. It would lead to her picking him up at his house and taking a drive together.

The following day, the teacher and the underaged minor, who at the time was 13-years-old, would end up having sex for the first time.

Shortly afterward, the boy would introduce Vera to his parents, who accepted her as his girlfriend, despite being his teacher.

She also told investigators the two had sex on almost a daily basis at her home, according to the complaint.

Vera is the daughter of Jaime Vera, a former 13-year veteran of the Houston Police Dept., who had his job terminated in 2011 after numerous infractions including the sexual assault a fellow female officer, sexual harassment complaints, and paying off mechanics to pass the inspection of his car.

Students at Stovall considered Vera the “cool teacher,” because she allowed cell phones in class. However, classmates had suspicions that something was going on after school, with one student saying, “He like grabbed her butt, and everybody saw it. And then they were talking about it.”

Vera further said in court documents that the pair engaged in sexual intercourse at the student’s house while his parents weren’t home.

Additionally, she also admitted she became pregnant with the teen’s child in January and claimed that after Child Protective Services (CPS) showed up at the school to investigate allegations of a romantic relationship, she decided to terminate the pregnancy.

Officials revealed CPS has launched an investigation into the boy’s family over their alleged support of the relationship.

In a statement, school district officials said, “Aldine ISD has been made aware that charges have been filed against a former Stovall Middle School teacher involved in inappropriate behavior with a male student. When the allegation was made in April, the teacher was immediately removed from the school and placed on administrative leave.

“Aldine ISD Police investigated the incident and turned their findings over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.”

After posting bail, Vera declined to comment on the case against her.
