Police have reported that a Miami woman abandoned her daughter to die in a burning building back in February has pleaded guilty to child neglect charges.

Erica Rosello, 33, allegedly ran out of her condo and left behind her 6-year old daughter as the building became engulfed in flames, the Miami Herald reported. Rosello claims that because she did not hear her daughter, Grace, screaming for help, she believed the little girl had died.

According to Fox News Latino, The child, who was trapped and unconscious in the apartment, was rescued by firefighters. She was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and has since recovered.

At the time of the incident, Rosello was on 30-months of probation for a drunk driving charge. As a component of her plea agreement, she had to wear a bracelet that alerts police when she consumes alcohol. Grace’s grandmother now has temporary custody, but Rosello is still allowed supervised visitation.

Rosello could face up to 5 years in prison if she violates her parole.

Rosello’s lawyers, Tara Kawass and Christopher DeCoster said that the deal is fair for both parties: “The goal of this deal is to reunite mother and daughter under the safest conditions. This is what all involved want, especially the young girl who really misses and needs her mother.”
