Federal prosecutors have convened a grand jury to investigate the wife of the Orlando nightclub gunman. Officials are looking to charge the woman as an accessory to 49 counts of murder and 53 counts of attempted murder. They are also seeking to pin her for failing to inform law enforcement about the pending terrorist attack while also lying to federal agents.

Noor Salman, Omar Mateen’s wife, has been interviewed by investigators in the days following Sunday’s massacre. A source with law enforcement informed Fox News that the woman knew of her husband’s deadly plan but did nothing to stop it from happening.

Federal authorities could charge Salman as an accessory and officials said investigators are looking into possible ties between Mateen’s wife and Islamic radical extremists overseas.

Mateen was killed in a shootout with police on early Sunday morning after his rampage lasted for nearly three hours. Although Salman has been referred to as Mateen’s wife, the only evidence of their marriage is on a 2013 mortgage document. Family members report that the two were in fact married and had a three-year-old child together.

Salman confessed to authorities that Mateen told her that he was going to carry out an attack, and it is currently alleged that Mateen even called her from Pulse nightclub during the massacre. Salman also affirmed details of Mateen’s gun purchases just days prior to the mass shooting.

According to Fox News, Salman is reportedly cooperating with investigators and is spilling information about her husband’s plans. CBS has even reported that she consented to and was administered a polygraph test.

CBS News reported in April and early June, Mateen had scouted another location for the slaughter — Downtown Disney.

Investigators have seized two of Mateen’s cell phones, one of which was a Samsung mobile phone. It is being reported that the FBI gained access to both devices and are currently investigating any and all content found. They are also going through Mateen’s computers looking for photos and videos of areas he may have been scouting, terrorist propaganda, and evidence of communication with anyone on the FBI’s radar.

The FBI is also currently looking into claims that Mateen had attended Pulse several times before the attack took place. It is believed that his wife drove him to the club at least once.

One man who frequented Pulse said that he recognized the terrorist from a gay hookup and dating app, and four other Pulse regulars claimed that they have seen Mateen at the club before. Jim Van Horn, 71, had even informed the media that Mateen would try to pick up men when he attended the club.

Meanwhile, the FBI raided the home of Salman’s 50-year-old mother in Rodeo, California on Tuesday.

FBI officials did confirm reports, however, they released no further details on the raid.
