Major drug cartel raid by feds in leads to five arrests in Detroit

Federal prosecutors have unsealed an indictment against seven alleged members of a “ Mexican drug cartel,” operating in Detroit and Warren, Michigan, officials announced.

Although details of the investigation remain sparse,  law enforcement officials said a joint operation the Detroit suburb of Warren and in the city of Detroit, involving DEA agents along with local police arrested five of co-conspirators, identified as Horatio Heard, Greg Howard, Demarco Tempo, Amancio Alexander and Dennis Jones.

Additional information on the remaining two suspects has not been released. Mayor Jim Fout said the indictments stemmed from an ongoing “citywide crackdown on drug houses in Warren.”

According to CBS News Detroit, U.S. prosecutors charged the five suspects listed in the indictment with conspiring to distribute over “100 grams” of heroin.”

DEA agents working with the Warren Police Department executed seven search warrants before the raids , including a home in Warren, where one of the defendants lived.

“Drug pushers are learning very fast that we have zero tolerance for drug houses,” Fouts said in prepared remarks.

Fouts said the Warren Police Department reported close to a dozen heroin overdoses, and two of those fatal was reported over a two-week period on April 7.
