Violence stemming an escalating turf war between factions of Los Zetas drug cartel that left residents in Ciudad Victoria living in a constant state of fear has spread terror to the streets of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas as well as to other neighboring cities near the border.

Earlier this week, residents of the Reservas Territoriales neighborhood alerted police after discovering the tortured remains of Pablo Cesar “El Talkia” Alvarez Guajardo, a known Zetas operative whose body was wrapped in a blanket and dumped on the side of the road.

Family members had to confirm the identity of the victim at the scene of the crime.

According to Breitbart News, Alvarez belonged to a Zetas faction called the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN). The group has been embroiled in an ongoing brutal conflict against Vieja Escuela or Old School Zetas also referred to as Grupo Bravo, the group based out of Ciudad Victoria.

The Old School Zetas declared war on the CDN and both sides have since carried out unspeakable acts of violence as they battle for control of vital drug smuggling corridors into the U.S.

The eruption of violence between the two groups has resulted in near-daily shootouts, executions, kidnappings, beheadings, and body dismemberments.

The fighting was initially limited to the state capital of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, but has since spread just south of the Texas border, to the city of Nuevo Laredo and in the neighboring state Nuevo Leon.
