The Mexican Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has announced a new arrest warrant against the son of one of the most influential drug traffickers in Mexico, Proceso reported.

In a statement, a spokesman for  the AG’s  Office said the First District Judge of Federal Criminal Proceedings in Toluca issued the warrant for detention against Rubén Oseguera González for a new round of organized crime charges.

Also referred to as “El Menchito,” he is the son of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho,” the leader of the ruthless Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Oseguera González is a U.S. citizen who was born in San Francisco and is alleged to be one of the top financial operators for the CJNG, considered Mexico’s most deadliest drug cartel.

He was captured during an operation by Mexican special forces in July 2015 and faces a litany of charges including weapons violations, fuel theft, drug trafficking and organized crime.

Monte Alejandro Rubido Garcia, Mexico’s national security commissioner, said that the suspect is “considered the second-in-command of the criminal group led by his father” — Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” who is responsible for coordinating the flow of drugs into the United States.

Mexican authorities had previously detained Oseguera Gonzalez in 2014 but released him over a lack of evidence.

Rubido Garcia said Oseguera Gonzalez attempted to bribe the officers at the time of his arrest by offering more than 17 million pesos, about $1,100,000, in exchange for his release.

The cash was later found at his home with an additional $610,000 in cash, along with four grenades, four assault rifles including a customized AR-15 inscribed with his engraved nickname “Menchito” and the phrase “CJNG 02,” a reference to his rank within the criminal organization.

Oseguera Gonzalez remains in custody at the Federal Rehabilitation Center No. 13 Prison, in the municipality of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca. Julio Alberto Castillo Rodriguez, the elder son of  El Mencho also remains behind bars after he was captured by Mexican Marines during an operation in Guadalajara back in April.

In the span of a few short years, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, founded by “El Mencho” has become the fastest growing criminal organization in Mexico rivaling the Sinaloa Federation Cartel.

The group’s propensity for violence and sensational attacks against federal security forces, which would include the downing of an army helicopter in May 2015, had made capturing the infamous cartel boss the Mexican government’s highest priority.
