A former high school teacher with the Houston Independent School District allegedly had sexual relations with a juvenile male student.

Steven Amedeo has been indicted with sexual performance by a child. The 38-year old was employed at Milby High School in Houston.

Court reports indicate that the victim’s girlfriend discovered inappropriate texts on her boyfriend’s phone between him and Amedeo. She asked her boyfriend about the texts and then reported them to the principal back in April.

The school principal reported to investigators that the boy confessed to engaging in sexual relations with Amedeo in December 2015, Click2 Houston reported.

Law enforcement officials stated that the minor admitted to police that he and Amedeo traded numbers in the fall and started texting each other. He also said Amedeo used to pick him up at the end of his street in his car.

Amadeo invited the boy over to his home, where he reported that the two had sex in the suspect’s bedroom. The boy then said he took a shower in the man’s apartment, and then Amadeo took him home.

The school district indicated that Amadeo was removed from his position following the allegations.

In a statement, the district said: “HISD takes situations such as this very seriously, as the safety of students is always the district’s top priority.”

Amedeo turned himself in on Thursday and was subsequently released after he posted $30,000 bail.

On May 12th, the Texas Education Agency reportedly opened a separate investigation on Amadeo.
