A Japanese, man who in a revenge-fueled rage cut off the penis of his wife’s lover, was handed a four and a half year prison sentence on Tuesday.

A Tokyo court convicted Ikki Kotsugai, a 25-year-old boxer, of creating “irreparable harm” to the unnamed victim and for violating Japan’s Swords and Firearms control laws, according to multiple reports.

“The victim continues to suffer physical and psychological pain day after day,” Judge Kazunori Karei of the Tokyo District Court said in his decision.

Last August, Kotsugai allegedly stormed into the office of a 43-year-old attorney’s office, punched the victim in the face, almost knocking him unconscious, before pulling out garden shears and cutting off the man’s genitals.

According to the Daily Mail, The boxer said to police at the time, “I cut off his genitals and flushed them down a toilet in the law office.”

He said that he had suspicions that his spouse was being forced by her employer, which launched him into a rage that led to his crime of passion.

“I couldn’t control my anger as I thought she was forced to have relations,” Kotsugai said.

The court ruled that the evidence suggested the victim’s relationship with the defendant’s wife was consensual not forced.

Prosecutors had requested a six-year sentence for Kotsugai, who apologized for cutting off the man’s ‘Johnson.’ In return, the victim has since apologized for having an affair with the boxer’s wife.
