A Lancaster gang member was sentenced to 45 years behind bars for allegedly trying to steal an ATM from a CVS in northwest Dallas last summer.

The Dallas Morning News reported that 32-year-old Michael Morgan was found guilty last month for his involvement in organized criminal activity and was sentenced on Wednesday.

Law enforcement officials indicated that Morgan and five other accomplices broke into the CVS before the manager arrived for his shift to find the ATM “pretty much decapitated.” George Chandrathil said he came to work and found glass everywhere.

Investigators who were trying to track down the suspects, interviewed Morgan and two others sitting in a parked car nearby, however, their clothes did not match what the ‘suspects’ were originally wearing.

The suspect was finally caught months later for a separate robbery charge and police were able to tie him later to the ATM robbery. His criminal history includes aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2005 and theft of property of $20,000 or more in 2011, both of which are felonies.

An accomplice in the robbery, Marquist Fulcher, a fellow gang member, testified against Morgan. His trial is scheduled to begin for this week.
