Law enforcement officials placed Dallas police headquarters and the surrounding area on lockdown Saturday after authorities received an anonymous threat against officers, as the city remains on edge in the wake of Thursday’s deadly sniper attack that killed five officers and wounding another seven.

Heavily armed SWAT teams were deployed around the area as regular uniformed officers armed with AR-15’s swept a large parking garage outside department headquarters.

In an email statement, officials said, “The Dallas Police Department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has taken precautionary measures” to heighten security.”

Sources told CBS DFW that a gang out of Houston had issued the threat, which officials believe was credible.

Officers cleared reporters and camera crews who gathered outside the headquarters in downtown Dallas after reports of the lockdown surfaced.

The Associated Press reported that at least two Dallas Police Department buildings have now been sealed with armed officers stand guard outside.

Maj. Thomas Castro told a local media affiliate that several general threats have been made against Dallas police, but noted nothing was specific.
