19 people dead, scores wounded during stabbing rampage in Tokyo, Japan

Law enforcement officials in Japan say they have arrested a 26-year-old man who is accused of a stabbing rampage that killed at least 19 people and wounding 50 in at a home for the disabled near Tokyo.

The mass murder occurred an hour and a half west of Tokyo, in the city of Sagamihara, where witnesses saw a man dressed in black holding a knife on the property of Tsukui Yamayuri Garden, which is a home for the disabled elderly.

According to the Guardian newspaper in the U.K., the suspect was a former staff member, and reports indicate that he has confessed to the stabbings. However, details of the motive have not yet been released

Five of the wounded are reportedly in critical condition.

Police officers swarmed the scene after receiving outbursts of 911 emergency calls from staff members just after 2:30 am. the man allegedly broke into the building, and proceeded to go on a stabbing rampage.

The brutal attack comes after Japanese pop star Mayu Tomita remains in a coma after she was stabbed dozens of times by a fan after refusing a gift back in May. Authorities recovered a three-inch knife at the scene of the crime along with a bloodstained mask and a trail of blood.
