Gunmen have executed the nephews of Emma Coronel, the wife of Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman in a broad daylight attack in Sonora, Mexico.

Officials said the victims identified as 19-year-old Kevin Alexis Colonel Orduño and his brother 13-year-old Justin Colonel Orduño were the sons of Colonel Sergio Ibarra, nephew of Nacho Coronel, a top boss in the Sinaloa cartel who was killed in Guadalajara, Jalisco back in 2010 during a gun battle with Mexican Marines.

The State Police Investigator (PEI) confirmed the armed attack occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, in the city of Obregon, Sonora.

According to Proceso, witnesses said three gunmen armed with AK-47 assault rifles in a late model white Honda Accord, sprayed automatic gunfire into the Volkswagen Jetta hitting the brothers multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Officials said forensics investigators have recovered evidence at the scene of the killings including over 20 shell casings.

‘El Chapo,’  who currently remains in a Mexican prison awaiting extradition to the U.S., married Emma Coronel in 2007 when she turned 18-years-old and have 4-year-old twin daughters together.

Coronel, a former beauty queen, is Guzman’s third wife and is the daughter of Ines Omar Coronel Aispuro, a top drug trafficker who was arrested in Mexico back in 2013 on drug trafficking charges.
