Authorities fear sixteen people were killed after a hot air balloon caught fire before crashing down into pasture in Central Texas, CNN reported.

In a statement, the Caldwell County Sheriff Daniel Law said his office started receiving 911 calls regarding a car accident in Lockhart, Texas, located due west of Austin.

However, upon arriving on the scene, Law said deputies along with emergency responders  soon realized the fire was the hot air balloon basket reportedly carrying sixteen passengers.

“It does not appear at this time that there were any survivors of the crash. At this time, investigators are still determining the exact number and the identities of victims,” Law said at a press conference.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford, the accident occurred around 7:40 a.m. Saturday morning near Lockhart, Texas.

Lunsford confirmed that investigators with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have arrived on the scene.
