An Arkansas mother and her boyfriend face child abuse charges after police discovered a young girl who was allegedly zip-tied to furniture and beaten on a regular basis.

Law enforcement officials said on Friday police had arrested 30-year-old Jennifer Denen, a mother-of-six, and her boyfriend 47-year-old Clarence Reed after the girl was discovered with bruises and scars all over her body, along with dry blood in her mouth.

When police asked the four-year-old girl what her name is, she responded “Idiot,”¬†the Daily Mail reported.¬†Investigators said the suspects apparently called the girl idiot so frequently that she thought it was her real name.

According to the police report, the little girl’s injuries include “deep purple bruising on her bottom, lower back and legs; a black eye; swollen right cheek; a bruise on her forehead; healing scars across her back; and dried blood in the corner of her mouth.”

Authorities also discovered physical evidence pointing to child abuse including marks on her wrist, which investigators say are consistent with being repeatedly bound to the bed and a chair in the house.

Another minor who was present confirmed that the young girl was tied to the furniture and was often referred to as “Idiot” by the suspects.

The pair now faces a litany of child abuse charges including first-degree domestic battery, first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, and permitting abuse of a juvenile. Both face up to 32 years behind bars if found guilty.

Denen informed detectives that she had seen Reed beat the child on the behind with a bat. She also stated that she did not at any point seek medical assistance for the young girl’s injuries.

Ultimately, Reed confessed to hitting the child with a wooden paddle and also admitted to tying her to the bed after he noticed her climbing into the cupboards in their kitchen.

Police also indicated that the girl was malnourished and that Reed admitted to calling the little girl an “idiot” as a joke.

The woman has five other children; the oldest four live with their biological father, while the youngest, whose biological father is Reed, has been taken into state custody.

The couple is currently being held on $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 23rd.
