Not the ideal hiding place. An armed man in Fort Worth Texas who claimed that a drug cartel was out to get him, determined that a Smoothie King was the best to hide until police discovered him after he dropped through the ceiling.

The disturbance was reported just before 9 p.m. on Saturday at a Fort Worth Smoothie King when police were dispatched to the establishment after a disturbance complaint, the Dallas Morning News reported

When authorities arrived, employees informed them that a man drove to the store, ran inside, just as they were closing and told them that he was engaged in a high-speed chase.

In an email on Sunday, police Seargent Marc Povero said: “The subject went behind the counter with a weapon and then climbed into the ceiling where he remained barricaded.”

SWAT members were summoned and managed to arrest the man without resistance after he fell through the ceiling. In an interview, the man told detectives that drug cartel members were out to get them.

According to public records, the suspect, who has been identified as 37-year-old John Case, lived just outside of Houston, about 250 miles southeast of Fort Worth.

Case is facing charges of criminal mischief, terroristic threat, and discharging a firearm in certain municipalities and remains in the custody of a Fort Worth Jail.

Police officials have not collaborated Case’s story. However, the owner of the smoothie shop said officers discussed sending him to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
