A routine traffic stop for sheriff’s deputies in the Dallas area turned out to be anything but routine. Police officers arrested 46-year-old Roberto Laguna Landin for drunk driving in the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 3rd after he attempted to flee authorities.

According to the Dallas Morning News, cops eventually arrested Landin after a short pursuit. However, as officers patted the drunk driving suspect down, a deputy noticed a massive bulge protruding in his sock and an open container inside his Chevrolet pickup truck.

The deputies examined what caused the bump in Laguna Landin’s sock, and discovered $20,000 in hundred dollar bills with notes attached containing the names and amounts stapled to the cash.

Following Laguna Landin’s arrest, who was booked into the custody of the Dallas County Jail on a DWI charge and for an open container, police also discovered he was in the U.S. illegally.

The sheriff’s public information office said the DUI suspect remains in custody due to a subsequent immigration hold placed on him by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

Court records haven’t indicated where the money originated from or what the notations suggested.

According to the police report, deputies witnessed Laguna Landin’s pickup driving erratically at 11:55 p.m. on the night in question.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect failed to stop when cops attempted to pull his vehicle over.

The warrant states that during the pursuit, Laguna Landin slowed his pickup down to 12 m.p.h., but still refused to stop his vehicle. Deputies had to use spike strips on the road to bring the pursuit to an end.

However, after refusing to exit the truck, a deputy smashed the window to find Laguna Landin inside just smiling.

The suspect admitted to officers in Spanish he had consumed five Bud Lights over the course of the night.

Police said records show Laguna Landin had no prior history of DUI but refuse to release any further information pending further investigation.

Moreover, sheriff’s officials stated that they were working to determine the origin of the $20 grand in cash found in Laguna Landin’s sock.
