Mexican fugitive who managed to escape prison four times captured

A Mexican fugitive who has managed more to escape prison more times than Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman is back in custody.

Three and a half months after his most recent escape, authorities in Mexico apprehended 50-year-old Roberto Sanchez Ramirez, also known as ‘The Leak’ on Tuesday.

Cops captured the elusive fugitive leaving a hotel in the municipality of Tlalnepantla, Estado de Mexico near Mexico City, according to Proceso.

Police officials said was shot in the leg after he attempted to evade custody by fleeing on foot and remains at a prison medical facility until he is well enough to be transferred to a maximum security prison.

The Leak managed to escape prison for a fourth time with another inmate back on May 31st after he fled a detention holding facility inside of a courthouse where he was scheduled to appear for a hearing.

Sanchez Ramirez and his accomplice, who police recaptured on June 14th, managed to get their hands on police uniforms and calmly walked out of the front doors of the courthouse without anyone noticing.

The escape artist broke out of jail for the first time back in 1991 by dressing up as a female. Two more prison breaks in 1998 and 1999, earned Sanchez-Ramirez the nickname ‘El Fugas’ or ‘The Escaper.’

Police officials said the fugitive had changed his physical appearance by growing a mustache, hair, had surgery on his nose and also donned a disguise to elude capture, according to the Attorney General of for the State of Mexico (PGJ).

The detainee now has four orders for his rearrest issued for his alleged involvement in kidnapping, aggravated conspiracy, and theft.

Sanchez-Ramirez was serving a sentence of 114 years, nine months and one day in prison on charges of conspiracy, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm when he escaped prison this last time.
