Race driver Robby Gordon’s father and stepmother were discovered dead on Wednesday in their California home.

Law enforcement officials announced that they retrieved a weapon in the Orange Park Acres home and believed that the deaths of Robert and Sharon Gordon were the result of a murder-suicide.

Orange police Lt. Fred Lopez said on Thursday that  Robert Gordon strangled his wife then shot himself in their Southern California home.

Police released no further details on the motive or circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Robby Gordon purchased the house in 1989, which is still in his name.

Robby, a former NASCAR, and Champ Car competitor, currently manages the Stadium Super Trucks series, which is hosting an event in Costa Mesa this weekend, not far from where the incident occurred.

“Baja Bob” Gordon was a talented off-road racer with five class wins in the Baja 1000 competition. He is also the father of Beccy Hunter-Reay, who is the wife of IndyCar race driver Ryan Hunter-Reay.

Robby Gordon has not commented on the tragedy, but his associates from the racing community have posted messages of support on social media.
