Border agents in Texas seize $7 million in liquid meth also arrest woman in Az. for smuggling heroin inside baby formula

U.S. Customs and Border Protection CBP officers intercepted over $7 million worth of liquid meth last week at a highway checkpoint in Falfurrias, Texas, Homeland Security officials announced in a statement.

Officers at the checkpoint on Highway 281 in Brooks County, noticed a suspicious driver of a pickup truck as he drove through the town en route to the checkpoint located about 75 miles from the border, which prompted officials to referred the vehicle to carry out a secondary inspection.

Border Patrol Agents discovered 220 pounds of liquid meth concealed inside the gas tank during a physical inspection worth an estimated street value of $7 million, according to a press release.

In a statement released by the CBP,  agents arrested the driver and had since transferred custody of the suspect to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation. The vehicle and drugs were both seized.

Meanwhile, CBP agents at the Port of Nogales Morley Pedestrian crossing near Tuscon, Arizona arrested a 31-year-old Mexican national woman from Sonora, Mexico after she attempted to smuggle nearly $50,000 worth of heroin disguised as baby formula through Sept. 13.

Officials said officers at the point of entry referred the woman traveling with her 2-year-old son, to a secondary inspection station for further examination.

As they conducted the search, border agents found nearly three pounds of heroin packaged concealed within a container of baby formula.

Officers placed the woman under arrest and handed her over to the Dept. of Homeland Security Investigations. Officials gave custody of the child to a member of the woman’s family.
