A pregnant woman was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Chicago that critically injured the baby’s father but luckily didn’t harm their unborn child, authorities announced on Monday.

Doctors managed to successfully deliver the baby girl, who was given the name “Miracle” by her family after a gunman opened fire on the pregnant woman, identified as 19-year-old Parasha Beard, in the neck on Sunday night, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The victim was due to give birth in December, and medical personnel said that the baby is in stable condition despite only weighing two pounds after her emergency premature birth.

Beard and the 26-year-old man were sitting in a parked vehicle at approximately 6 pm on Sunday when a suspect with dreadlocks began shooting at the couple.

Authorities have not made any arrests and have not named any suspects in the investigation on Monday night, according to Officer Kevin Quad, a spokesperson for the Chicago police department.

The child’s father, who is a documented gang member, was reported in stable condition on Monday, Quad added.

The father was shot in both his chest and his neck. The couple was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital listed in critical condition.

Beard (whose name is pronounced PAIR-a-shay) succumbed to her injuries less than an hour after the attack.

“They came and ended her life in broad daylight,” Crystal Jones, Beard’s mother stated. “They shot her up in front of my house in broad daylight. I just want justice and peace.”

The identity of baby girl’s father has not been revealed. Beard was employed at a Portillo’s restaurant in Skokie and was enrolled a college prep charter school from the Excel Academy network.

Family and friends left flowers, stuffed animals, and a statue of the Virgin Mary in a makeshift memorial where Beard was shot. Her relatives said that she also leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter, and they are overwhelmed that the infant was able to be saved on Sunday night.

“It is a miracle,” said the victim’s grandmother, Sylvia Ann Jones. “Hopefully, she’ll pull through. By the grace of God, she’ll pull through.”
