A 28-year-old California man charged with first-degree murder in the brutal torture and slaying of his girlfriend, which involved cutting out the woman’s lung while she was still alive, will spend the remainder of his life in prison.

On Monday, Alexander Anthony Clever was sentenced to life behind bars without parole for the murder of Yvette Silva, KTLA reported

The California man pleaded no contest to charges of first-degree murder charges back in July.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, Clever and Silva went to a motel back in November 2014 and got into a dispute that turned deadly.

After hearing muffled screams from the bathroom,  two other individuals who had accompanied the couple to the motel, walked on Clever holding an unconscious Silva in a chokehold.

The two witnesses attempted to break the woman free and then ran for help. Police discovered the women in the shower with her heart and her right lung cut out from her body.

Prosecutors said autopsy results determined the woman was still alive when Clever removed the lung from Silva’s body.

Two days later, authorities apprehended Clever outside of his house and discovered knife on him containing the victim’s DNA on it.

Clever pleaded no contest to murder back in July and confessed that he committed mayhem and torture as he killed his girlfriend.
