Mexican reporters are revealing what seems to be cooperation between Mexican police officers and cartel gunmen during an alleged kidnapping in Sinaloa.

The footage was filmed by a restaurant patron in the city of Mazatlan Sinaloa, which shows armed cartel members riding in at least one SUV as they get out into the middle of the street.

The patron and other individuals at the restaurant glance out the window at what looked like a kidnapping. Across the street, the cell phone video presents a caravan of police officers getting into their patrol vehicles and leaving the scene without confronting the suspects.

The government of Sinaloa has not announced any information to confirm or disprove the video. The footage seems to be the abduction of various people on Monday afternoon in Mazatlan.

According to Mexico’s Proceso Magazine, four people were kidnapped and taken inside a gray Honda. The description of the car is comparable to the one shown in the video that was distributed by journalists.

Proceso also reported that six others were abducted and murdered on Sunday, and during the same time frame — one man was killed and one injured during a nearby shootout.

Mazatlan is the same city where, in 2014, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquin El Chapo Guzman was apprehended for the second time. The infamous drug kingpin was hiding under the radar in a luxurious apartment complex equipped with a range of tunnels that enabled him to avoid capture.

Sinaloa has been the source of a resurgence of brutal violence as members of the Beltran Leyva and Cartel Jalisco New Generation drug cartels are attempting take control over the territory.

The malice even resulted in a group of shooters ambushing the remote town of Badiraguato and ransacking the home of El Chapo’s mother. Not long after the incident, at least one of El Chapo’s sons was abducted at gunpoint from a restaurant in the Mexican resort town of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.
