A father-of-two was shot and killed in a suspected road rage incident as he was driving to see his wife and their newborn baby in the hospital.

Dennis Sloboda was driving to a Washington hospital on Monday night at approximately 9 pm when he unintentionally cut someone off, according to his family.

Soon after, the road rage episode spiraled out of control when the other driver “pulled out a gun” when both men stopped at a traffic light, according to the Daily Mail.

The terrified victim retreated and drove to his brother Anton’s apartment nearby. However, the gunman followed him.

The brother told the Seattle Times: “I looked, and I could see the guy he was talking about, but he left when he saw me.”

Anton Sloboda said his brother asked to use his gun, but he didn’t let him because he didn’t want the incident to intensify any further.

Instead, he requested that Dennis stay at his apartment for a while, to relax and watch a movie. He was sure that the gunman would eventually give up and leave the property.

After he had stayed for about an hour at his brother’s home, Dennis chose to leave and go to the hospital at around 10 pm.

Approximately a half hour later, authorities received reports of shots fired.

Dennis was discovered fatally shot behind the wheel of his car, close to where his brother resided.

Anton stated that he was shot in the head through the back of the vehicle, and did not learn of the incident until he called his sister-in-law at around 1 a.m. to check on Dennis.

She told him that her husband had never showed.

“She looked at the (GPS) on his cell phone and saw that he looked like he was on the street,” he stated. “I went down there, but the police would not let me get close. They said I had to go to talk to the detectives.”

Law enforcement officials announced that they would hold off on releasing a description of the road rage suspect or the car he was driving.

His devastated wife Irina, who gave birth to their second child Nicholas a few days prior, said that “words cannot explain my heartbreak.”

She had recently posted a photo of her husband with their older son on Instagram with a caption that read: “Nothing sexier than a man that’s a good dad. My man crush every day.”

The couple had tied the knot in March of this year.

The 33-year-old victim, who moved to Washington from Minsk, Belarus as a teen back in 1998, worked as a car mechanic with one of his brothers and had recently got a second job as a driver to further support his family.

Nikita Sloboda, his brother, wrote on Facebook: “It will be tough without your presence. Words can not describe how much you will be missed.”

His other brother, Tayler Sloboda wrote: “To the older brother, I always dreamed of having… words aren’t enough to express the heartbreak our family is feeling.”

The post further stated: “The strength and love you possessed were unlike any other, and when I think of our times together I can just picture your contagious laugh… to say that you were respected and loved by all who met you doesn’t give you enough credit.

Our family will never be the same; you’re the glue that always reminded us to stick together, and that it’s a beautiful life. To imagine our future without you in it just doesn’t seem fair but we’re happy to know you’re in a better place. Rest in peace; we love you,” he concluded.

Sloboda’s relatives have also launched a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses, which has already raised over $35,000.

“Denis my brother became a father last week, he was getting a second job to provide for his new family,” Anton Sloboda stated on the page. “Last night on the way to the hospital to visit his baby Nicolas and wife Irina he got shot by a crazy mad man.”

“We are all in shock. Police are investigating and looking for the guy who did it. In a tragic road rage and premeditated murder case, since the guy waited for almost an hour and a half until Dennis left the house. This family is in need of your prayers and support.”
