West Virginia man charged with the beating death and sexual assault of girlfriend’s 9-month-old daughter

Authorities have charged a West Virginia man with the deplorable sexual assault and beating of death his girl friend’s 9-month-old daughter.

On Monday, police in Ripley, West Virgina arrested 32-year-old Benjamin Taylor, on charges of murder and first-degree rape following the horrific death of little Emmaleigh Barringer.

The child died Wednesday at a Charleston hospital from injuries she sustained in the attack.

Police wrote in the initial criminal complaint that Barringer suffered injuries including extensive bleeding, which indicated a violent sexual assault.

According to WSAZ, the child’s mother, Amanda Leigh Adkins, called Police on Monday after she awoke around 5 a.m. to find Emmaleigh naked, injured and unresponsive on the basement floor of their apartment building in Jackson County, where they lived.

Emergency responders rushed the little victim to the hospital where she remained in critical condition before she was taken off of life support on Wednesday.

Emmaleigh reportedly suffered head trauma, was violently shaken and sexually assaulted.

Cops stated that they arrived to discover Taylor wiping something off his groin area, which investigators later determined was the baby’s blood.

Police said Emma was reportedly violently shaken and suffered head trauma as well as being sexually assaulted.

Police said Emma was reportedly violently shaken and suffered head trauma as well as being sexually assaulted.

At first, Taylor told police he had no idea how the child sustained the injuries but later had stated that the baby was with him while he was doing laundry in the basement of the apartment building, but claimed he “passed out.”

Police said Taylor is in a relationship with the victim’s mother but is not the father of Emmaleigh.

“You literally would have thought he was a Prince Charming, she was so lit up inside,” Danielle Adkins a relative told WSAZ, referring to the couple’s relationship.

“He wanted to do things with her, and he hung out with the kids. The only way justice is going to be served is if he feels every ounce of pain that he caused her,” Adkins told the station.

Even the most hardened police officers were left horrified by the case.

‘We’ve never encountered anything of this nature as long as I’ve been here,’ Jackson County Sheriff Tony Boggs told Metro News.

Taylor remains in custody at the South Regional Jail on a $2 million bond.

Boggs said the “investigation is ongoing.”
