The FBI arrested 28 members and associates of the Maniac Latin Disciples (MLD) street gang on a slew of federal and state charges including narcotics trafficking and armed robbery in one of the largest gang takedowns in Wisconsin history.

R. Justin Tolomeo, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Milwaukee Division, made the announcement in a released statement on Wednesday.

The FBI’s Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Gang Task Force, consisting of the FBI Chicago’s field offices, the DEA along with local and state law enforcement agencies, conducted Wednesday’s coordinated predawn raids in Northern Illinois, and in Kenosha and Racine Counties aimed at dismantling the MLD’s powerful grip over southeastern Wisconsin.

The gang takedown is the result of an investigation into an ongoing criminal enterprise run by members of the Maniac Latin Disciples who allegedly oversaw the trafficking of large bulk narcotics, armed robberies and were responsible for numerous shootings in their community.

According to the statement, dozens of law enforcement agents participated in the operation, which resulted in the seizure of drugs including cocaine, marijuana, $80,000 in cash, weapons, ammunition, body armor, and vehicles, from well over 20 different locations throughout northern Illinois and southeast Wisconsin.

“The operation targeted between 40 and 50 locations throughout that area to disrupt a gang and drug trafficking organization that’s operating in this area,” FBI Agent Robert Botsch said.
