Police officers in Fort Worth, Texas apprehended and charged an El Salvadorian national with the abduction and rape of a six-year-old girl.

The abduction of the little girl occurred in the early morning hours of October 8th, after she went missing from her home in the according to her parents. A quick search party was formed, but the child was not located until about 2 pm when somebody heard outcries coming from nearby woods.

Law enforcement officials revealed that 35-year-old Edis Moya Alas, of El Salvador, abducted the child from her house and brought her to an area near Titus Park where he sexually assaulted her. Authorities are not sure of how Alas knew the girl or how he gained entry into the residence.

“The young child immediately saw police officers and ran towards us. She was very scared. She was very nervous. We owe a great debt to the citizen that actually heard the screams and notified us to go into that field area,” the police department announced in a statement.

The child’s mother and father indicated that they went to bed at around 10 pm on Friday night, but the victim’s father had noticed the front open and his daughter missing just after 4 am.

According to NBC Fort-Worth, following his arrest, Immigration Customs Enforcement officials informed Fort Worth officers that Alas was illegally in the U.S.

Alas is currently in custody in the Mansfield jail on a $200,000 bond.
