A military operation involving the Mexican Marines has led to the capture of the top assassin for Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, the son of Joaquin El Chapo Guzman, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Mexico’s military have conducted operations aimed at targeting the children of El Chapo in the wake of September’s ambush attack in Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa which killed 5 soldiers, injuring another ten.

According to Mexican Navy officials, a specialized Marines unit captured 25-year-old Cristán Espinoza Rueda, 25, nicknamed “El 300,” who is described as the right hand of Ivan Archivaldo Guzman during a predawn operation in Culiacan  early Monday morning in Culiacan.

Military officials said the cartel operative was in possession of two weapons only allowed for the exclusive use of the military.

According to El Debate, Espinoza Rueda was also carrying identification under the false name Juan Pablo Solis-Mendez.

Marines transferred custody of the suspect over to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office for processing.

The Navy has identified “El 300” as one of Ivan Archivaldo Guzman’s most trusted gunmen, whom the Secretariat of National Defense has targeted following the deadly ambush attack north of the capital.

As JammedUp reported, over 50 gunmen allegedly linked to the Sinaloa cartel, attacked a military convoy of ten vehicles escorting an ambulance transporting an injured high-level cartel operative named Julio Oscar Vega Ortiz, “El Kevin,”  from the mountains of Badirgurato to a hospital in Culiacan when the attack occurred.

Immediately after the ambush, military officials wasted little time naming the sons of El Chapo as the likely culprits.

In response, Mexican military officials have deployed the same highly trained special forces unit made up of Marines and Federal Police Intelligence officers who captured “El Chapo” Guzman back in January, to hunt for Ivan and his brother Alfredo Guzman Salazar.

Following the attack  Jose Rodriguez Refugio, the lawyer for ‘El Chapo’ refuted the government’s allegations during an interview with Proceso, calling the assertions of Ivan and Alfredo’s involvement in the fatal assault a “witch hunt.”

“The children of Joaquin (Guzman Loera) Ivan and Alfredo disavow the unfortunate events that killed the soldiers in the cowardly ambush, and lament the death of the soldiers in  the line of duty,” Rodriguez said.

The attorney added, “As a result, they request a full, objective, and impartial investigation to clarify the facts, which will show they had no involvement in the attack.”
