An Italian mother identified as Veronica Panarello who was convicted of brutally killing her eight-year-old son, after the child allegedly found out that she was having a relationship with his grandfather, has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars in Italy.

Italian officials said Veronica Panarello strangled her son Loris Stival, with electrical cables before leaving his body in a ditch in attempt to conceal her crime in the town of Santa Croce, Sicily.

Investigators said when Veronica Panarello attempted tell authorities that her son had been kidnapped, claiming that she had dropped off him off at school and that he was gone by the time she came to pick him up later in the day.

Law enforcement officials quickly grew suspicious of the boy’s mother, when school surveillance footage did not back up her account, The Daily Mail reported.

Prosecutors have referred to her as an “egocentric, manipulative liar.” When Panarello admitted that her son was murdered, she blamed it on her husband’s father, Andrea Stival.

She claimed that he had assisted in the plotting and execution of the killing because the boy caught the two having sex.

The man is currently being investigated as an accessory. He has refuted the allegations and is threatening to take legal action against his daughter-in-law for slander. He simply stated: “It is just another lie of that crazy woman.”

The man continued: “The accusation is something completely out of this world. I went mad for my grandson, my little angel. Now there’s a need for peace and justice. My stomach turned upside down, downgrading a grandfather’s love.”
