Prosecutors in the trial of Texas resident Michael Kevin Adams who is accused of murdering his fiancee back in 2013, told the court that the defendant shot the woman in the face twice to prevent her from testifying against him in a case involving kidnapping and rape.

Michael Kevin Adams was apprehended back in 2014 on a capital murder charge in the killing of his stockbroker ex-fiancee 34-year-old Nicole Leger, who was found dead by her 17-year-old son in September 2013.

The prosecution argued that the 53-year-old executed Leger to prevent her from testifying in the sexual assault case against him, but the defense contended that the investigation had been compromised because the victim was in a sexual relationship with a police official who was working on the case.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Leger was allegedly raped by Adams at his Frisco residence in March 2013 when she went to get her belongings after they split-up the month before.

Adams allegedly spiked the victim’s food with drugs, locked her in his garage, and then proceeded to rape her.

Leger pressed charges against her attacker, which led to his arrest in March for unlawful restraint and aggravated sexual assault.

The victim told veteran Frisco Detective Scott Greer that her ex-fiance kept her bound for over 24 hours before she finally persuaded him to let her go after she vowed to go to couples’ counseling with him. However, she went straight to authorities, DallasNews.com reported.

As she spoke to the detective from her hospital bed after the assault, Leger said she was shocked that he let her free and claimed that he has issues controlling his anger. The detective taped his conversation with the woman.

When Adams posted bail and was released, the victim was given an emergency protective order.

One month later, Adams violated the no-contact order by sending Leger flowers and a card.

“I feel like he will show up at my door or car at any time,” she said, according to a police statement.

Her son, Trey Leger, who was 17 at the time, told law enforcement officials that Adams had threatened that he would kill his mother.

Defense says the case against Adams has been compromised by the involvement of former Frisco, Texas, detective Scott Greer, who has admitted that he and Leger had exchanged lewd photos

Then, that September, the teen came home from school and found his mother shot twice in the face.

This week, Adams’ lawyers in court portrayed former detective Scott Greer as a “dirty cop.” The officer, who resigned in May 2014 after 17 years on the force, confessed to exchanging explicit pictures with Leger.

Greer was the investigator who collected a DNA sample from Adams, which prompted the man’s attorneys to allege that the criminal investigation had been contaminated.

The defense also indicated in court that rape kit evidence obtained at Nicole Leger’s home after her murder showed that the woman had sex with at least two individuals, which did not include Michael Kevin Adams before she was killed.

Adams informed police that he was in Frisco at the time of Leger’s death.
