Abducted newborn baby found after mother was found shot dead

A one-week-old newborn, who was abducted after her mother was fatally shot, was discovered in Dallas alive on Saturday.

The FBI and Texas Police discovered Sofia Victoria Gonzalez Abarca was found safe, arresting two adults, according to Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay.

On Friday, investigators identified a suspect in the case they referred to as a “homicide/abduction” and discovered the person of interest had fled to Dallas after receiving a tip, The Witchita Eagle reported.

The child’s mother, Laura Abarca-Nogueda, 27, was found shot to death at her residence on Thursday in Wichita, Kansas.

Sofia, who has been placed in protective custody, will be placed in the care of her relatives as soon as possible, Ramsay added.

The suspects allegedly knew the mother, but Ramsay declined to provide additional details.

Both assailants were brought in for questioning on Saturday, but no charges have been filed thus far.

The FBI and police were searching for the abducted child since Thursday, the same day that Abarca-Nogueda’s boyfriend, Sofia’s father, returned home from work and found her body.

Law enforcement officials received a tip at approximately 4:30 am Saturday that the baby was in Dallas and executed a search warrant at a residence.

“This is the best possible outcome to a very sad case,” Ramsay continued.

The investigation is still pending, and there may be additional suspects to come. However, law enforcement officials have ruled out Sofia’s father a suspect.
