Leaked footage that was recorded just after a cartel shootout that transpired in Tamaulipas, located south of the Texas border, shows Mexican soldiers racing to help a cartel gunman who had been shooting at them just seconds prior.

“Seriously, thanks for saving me,” the cartel member is heard saying in Spanish.

Mexican military personnel recorded the video. The firefight occurred near Miguel Aleman, a Mexican city located south of Starr County, Texas.

Gulf Cartel members use this area as one of their major drug smuggling routes into Texas.

The soldiers were ambushed by a convoy of armed cartel members, according to Breitbart Texas. During the shootout that ensued, an SUV rolled over, leaving a gunman trapped inside and was unable to escape. Breitbart Texas reported.

In the footage, one of the soldiers is heard talking to the gunman to prevent him from losing consciousness as other soldiers worked to free him.

Once the soldiers freed the gunman, they started to cover his wounds. At that time the gunman is heard expressing his thanks. Authorities recovered a .50 caliber Barrett rifle, three AK-47 rifles, a tactical vest, and other items from the vehicle.
