Three days after a mother and her teenage daughter were reported missing in North Carolina, their lifeless bodies were discovered in a well.

Martin County officials revealed that 40-year-old Dawn Ward and her 14-year-old daughter, Taylor Carroll, were found dead at approximately 2 pm on Thursday in Williamston, just 10 miles away from their mobile home.

Autopsies will be performed to ascertain the cause and manner of death. Lieutenant Drew Robinson, of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, said that the incident is being investigated as a homicide, but so far, no arrests have been made.

Ward’s mom was the last identified person on Monday to see the two alive, CBS News reported.

She told authorities that she recognized something was wrong when she saw a shattered window in her daughter’s home, which is located near hers.

Bear Grass Charter School, where Taylor attended school, canceled classes on Friday.
