A lawsuit filed by the father of slain Tejano star Selena aims to halt the production of a television series based on a book written by Chris Perez, the singer’s widower.

On Friday, Abraham Quintanilla filed suit in Nueces County District Court against Perez, Blue Mariachi Productions, LLC, and Endemol Shine North America, the production company that announced plans last month to adapt Perez’s 2012 memoir, “To Selena with Love,” into a network series.

In court filings obtained by the Corpus Christie Caller-Times, Quintanilla called Perez’s memoir an unauthorized book and sought to halt production of the show.

The lawsuit claims Perez signed off all rights to utilize the singer’s name and likeness to her estate in return for 25 percent of profits.

The legal action follows a year which the late Latina singer and Texas native received international acclaim which included an induction in the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame. She also earned a MAC Cosmetics makeup line; a purple vinyl record for her hits called “Ones,” along with a Billboard Latin Music Award for Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year.

Selena’s recognition is expected to continue for the coming year when the third annual Fiesta de la Flor is scheduled to honor her on March 24-25.

Additionally, the singer is also slated to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017

Selena Quintanilla-Perez, who hailed from Corpus Christie, had her promising career cut short after she was tragically gunned down by the President of her fan club back in 1995.
