On Thursday morning, U.S Customs and Border Protection agents recovered over a 1,300 pounds of marijuana in Los Indios, Texas, arrested a 15-year-old teen from Mexico late last week.

Officers working at the Harlingen Border Patrol Station noticed several people loading a vehicle with pot, according to a press release issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. When agents pulled the car over, the driver tried to flee on foot.

Border Patrol agents uncovered over 1,380 pounds worth an estimated street value of $1.1 million dollars, CBP officials said in a statement.

The driver, who is a 15-year-old Mexican national and has not been identified was handed over to local police. The weed was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

In the news release, Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr. stated: “This is a prime example of how transnational criminal organizations are exploiting the youth. These young lives are put in danger for the profit of smuggling drugs and immigrants.”

The statement continued: “We work with the community by warning children of the outcomes of working with these organizations, not only by potentially facing prison time, but also death.”
