Joeviair Kennedy charged with murder.

State Prosecutors charged Western Michigan University basketball player Joeviair Kennedy, with last week’s murder of a fellow student.

Kennedy, 20, is set to appear Kalamazoo County court for his arraignment on Monday for last Thursday’s fatal shooting death of 19-year-old Jacob Jones at an apartment off-campus.

Police investigators say others were present when Kennedy shot Jones while attempting the robbery of a phone and money, according to the Associated Press.

University officials subsequently suspended Kennedy on Friday and removed him from the team’s website.

Kennedy was in his sophomore year, averaging just over seven minutes per game in eight appearances this season.

In a statement, Western Michigan head coach Steve Hawkins called the homicide a “devastating tragedy for everybody involved.”

Prosecutors haven’t indicated whether Joeviair Kennedy has hired an attorney to represent him.
