Authorities in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas reported seven people shot, two fatally, in the capital city of Ciudad Victoria, which has been wracked by violence related to a brutal cartel turf war.

Tamaulipas state government officials said the mass shooting event occurred on Sunday night during a community Christmas party near the San Marcos River after a dispute broke out between a group of teenagers attending the gathering just moments before the gunfire erupted.

State Police officials reported two teens fatally shot, and another five underage teenagers wounded during the shooting, Breitbart reported.

Emergency medical personnel treated the injured victims as Tamaulipas state police units unsuccessfully launched a manhunt for the suspected gunmen.

Ciudad Victoria has remained the epicenter of a horrific turf war over lucrative drug trafficking corridors into the United States resulting from a factional split within the ruthless Los Zetas drug cartel.

The Zetas faction called the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN), had maintained control over the region but is now under serious threat by a rival faction known as the Old School Zetas and other cartel groups.

Residents continue to live in a constant state of terror as the result of the cartel civil war, which has led to unspeakable acts of violence committed including shootouts, beheadings, decapitations, kidnappings, and attacks on local businesses occurring on a daily basis.
