An Arizona Sheriff’s sergeant lost his eye after he suffered a kick to the face by a woman during a DUI arrest.

Yesennia Gonzalez, 28, was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Pima County, Arizona around midnight Saturday.

As deputies attempted to put the handcuffed woman in the back of a squad car, she became unruly and started kicking at the officers, according to a news release from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The statement indicated that during the ensuing struggle, Gonzalez kicked Sergeant Mark Bustamante in the left eye with the heel of her boot.

Bustamante was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent an operation on his eye. However, doctors were unable to save it, ABC15 reported.

Deputies charged Gonzalez with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of DUI.

She currently remains in the custody of the Pima County jail.
