An 18-year-old in Chicago teen admitted to stealing a car because “it was too damn cold to wait at the bus stop.”

On Wednesday, Eduardo Rivera noticed an unlocked vehicle with the keys in the ignition just after he left his house, according to an arrest report referenced by NBC5 Chicago.

Rivera was pulled over less than three miles away after he made a turn without turning on his signal, and police scanned the license plate and discovered that the car was stolen.

The Chicago teen teen told authorities that he stole the SUV because it was too cold to wait at the bus stop, the Assistant State Attorney, Lorraine Scaduto, revealed.

Rivera, a high school student with no previous criminal record, is facing a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle.

A polar vortex hit Chicago on Wednesday, with wind chills at 20-30 below zero.
