Inmate punches female guard at Cook County Jail.

Surveillance footage obtained by the New York Post captured the moment an inmate at Chicago’s Cook County Jail punched a female corrections officer.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred on December 5th as guards were performing a search of the inmate’s cell identified as 41-year-old Jimmie Smith.

Footage of the assault shows Smith attacking the female guard during the search after she seized a laptop from his cell, he was using to tape a talk show from jail, according to Patch.com.

Smith has remained in custody at the Cook County Jail for over seven years in connection with a 2009 abduction of two women and two teens on Chicago’s South Side.

The Sheriff’s Department said Smith was charged with aggravated battery for the attack on the guard. An investigation is underway to determine how the inmate was able to smuggle and keep hold of the laptop, which is not prohibited at the jail.
