A Russian diplomat was found murdered at his home near Moscow mere hours after a Russia’s ambassador was gunned down in Turkey on Monday.

Authorities discovered 56-year-old Petr Polshikov, at his residence, shot execution style with a gunshot wound to his head, Ren TV in Russia reported.

Although investigators haven’t indicated a time of death and released few details into Polishkov’s killing. Officials refused to comment on whether they suspected a connection between the two incidents but did say they were investigating all theories.

Fox News reported Polishkov’s wife was reportedly home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.

Polishkov was a high-ranking Russian diplomat with the Foreign Ministry in Latin America and had previously held a post in Bolivia, according to The Daily Mail.

However, it remains unclear whether he still worked with the foreign ministry when he died.

Police reportedly recovered two empty bullet shells at the scene and a gun in the sink of the bathroom.

His murder came soon after news broke of the assassination of Andrey Karlov, Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, who shot to death by a gunman as he gave a speech at the opening of an art exhibit in Ankara Monday evening.
