Federal authorities arrested three men for their role in a drug smuggling ring tied to Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel during a raid near Seattle, Washington last week, officials said in a press release.

The bust is the latest indication of cartel activity taking hold in the Northwestern United States.

The raid was part of a joint operation involving agents with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

The investigation into the drug trafficking ring, which is believed to be linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, resulted in the arrests of Leonardo Mateo Cueto-Ruiz, Gilberto Ulloa-Aguirre, and Luis Venancio Cueto-Ruiz on December 14th in Everett, Washington.

Authorities recovered a total of 46 pounds of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, along with two firearms during the operation.

The three co-conspirators appeared for their arraignment on Dec. 15th in Snohomish County Court on multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

A U.S. Magistrate Judge set bail at $250,000 each of the three defendants.
